James Leroy (Lee) Egbert was born April 3, 1844, son of Thomas Hiram and Agnes Collins Egbert. He married Sarah Frances (Fanny) Nall on April 7, 1869. He fought in the Civil War in the 12th Regiment Cavalry under General Forrest. He served as sheriff of Hickman County in the late 1800's and was elected to the Kentucky State Legislature as representative from Hickman and Fulton Counties in 1899.

He and Fanny had seven children--listed below.

• Thomas Hiram, born April 23, 1870, married Clara L. Brown. He was a doctor and served in the Army during World War. He practiced medicine in Clinton,KY during the 1940's.
• Mildred Agnes, born October 4, 1872, married W. B. Williams.
• Martha Annie, born June 14, 1875, married Jack Piper.
• Vivian Roy, born in 1878, married James Deboe
• James Randle, born February 1, 1881, married Lula (?)
• David Carlisle, born December 25, 1883, married Bertha Shelton.
• Marion Price, born April 30, 1887, married Mora Weaks.
